The Department's activities had started in 1997 at Sakarya University Education Faculty and its first graduates in 2001-2002. Primary Education Department has 5 education programs. These are Science Education Program, Mathematics Education Program, Preschool Education Program, Elementary Education Program and Social Studies Education Program. These programs offer undergraduate level education.
Within the SAU Institute of Educational Sciences, all programs have Master programs. Also, Science Education Program and Social Studies Education Program have PhD programs.
The graduates of the department could service as a teacher in primary public schools and private schools. Also, the graduates could attend graduate education in teacher education.
